Law Offices
Law office design became the specialty of a generalist practice, beginning with an office for Alan Spielman in 1978.
No. 36Alan Spielman Law Office
The first of his law offices, on the ground floor of a Pine Street town house where the attorney, who was blind, lived above. Quartersawn white oak trim with crisp profiles draws on his work on Kahn’s Yale Center for British Art. Photographs by Tom Crane.
No. 37Law Offices of Mannino Walsh and Griffith
Designed twice: the first office, at One Meridian Plaza, was destroyed in the 1991 fire, and the firm moved to I. M. Pei’s Commerce Square. Niches and columns within a modern setting, with etched glass panels framed in cherry. Photographs by Greg Benson.
No. 38Addition to Suburban Law Office
A two-floor addition to a Georgian Revival house of about 1900, reusing four Doric columns from a demolished porch. Designed at the height of postmodernism.
